Good morning. I’m glad you’re here—just you and me—blessed with an unhurried Saturday morning reflection.

My King, My Father, My Friend

At the crossroads of everyday life and the quiet discovery of Christ.

Morning light over the water—a quiet reminder of seasons past, and of the God who was present through them all.

At the crossroads of everyday life and the quiet discovery of Christ.

As I reflect on the years before and just after I began caring for my parents, I can see how full my life once seemed.

At the time, I was running my business and living in Clear Lake along the Texas Gulf Coast. My weekends were often spent boating, enjoying what I believed was a full and satisfying life.

Or so I thought.

A life can look full from the outside.
Yet still be missing the One who gives it meaning.

It wasn’t until the weight of my own declining health, combined with the responsibility of caring for two very ill parents, that everything began to change. The strain slowly pressed in from every side until I reached a place of deep exhaustion and despair.

And it was there, at the bottom of that valley, that I finally cried out to God for help.

What I did not realize then was that He had been there all along.

Even during the years when I was busy running my business and largely ignoring Him, He was there.

Christ’s love is remarkable in this way. In the hurried pace of our lives, we often forget to honor Him, praise Him, or spend time in His presence. We fill our days with responsibilities, ambitions, and distractions, believing we are managing life on our own.

Yet through it all, He remains.

Patient.
Faithful.
Waiting.

Long before we reach for God,
He has already been reaching for us.

Waiting not with condemnation, but with the open arms of a Father who loves His children more than they can imagine.

Over time I came to understand that the One I had cried out to in desperation was not only my Savior, but also my King, my Father, and my Friend.

As King, He rules with authority over all things.

As Father, He welcomes us with compassion and care.

And as Friend, He walks beside us through every ordinary moment of life.

What once felt like despair became the beginning of something far deeper: a relationship I had overlooked for far too long.

And perhaps that is the quiet miracle many of us discover over time.

The God we once thought distant was never distant at all.

The One we imagine waiting only for our perfection is, instead, waiting patiently for our attention—not demanding performance, but inviting relationship.

God is not waiting for our perfection.
He is waiting for our attention.

When we slow down long enough to notice, we begin to see Him everywhere—in the ordinary moments, in the quiet spaces of prayer, and even in the lessons that arrive through hardship.

Over the years I have come to know Him more fully.

Not only as the sovereign King who rules over all creation.

Not only as the loving Father who cares for His children.

But also as the faithful Friend who walks beside us through every season of life.

And the remarkable truth is this:

He was never absent.

Even when I did not seek Him,
even when I did not acknowledge Him,
even when my life was too busy to notice—

He was there all along.

My King.
My Father.
My Friend.

Thank you for spending a quiet moment reflecting with me.

“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
Matthew 6:21

A Quiet Reflection

As you look back over your own life, can you see moments where God was present—even before you realized it?

If you feel led, you’re welcome to share your reflection in the comments. Sometimes the stories we carry quietly are the very ones that encourage someone else.
